wedding recap // part 1 // tim + kelli

**This month we are going to be showcasing some of our favorite weddings from the past few years. I checked back in with these couples and had them answer some questions about their special day!**
//part 1//part 2//part 3//part 4//

The location of Tim and Kelli’s wedding was one of the most beautiful wedding locations I’ve ever seen. High up in the hills with stunning views of the Texas Hill Country everywhere you looked! They were also one of my most laid back couples and their country ranch wedding embodied that!

Here’s what Tim and Kelli had to say…

What would you change about your wedding day, if anything?
Kelli – I would have left the reception in an old car and would have had an after party at one of the local bars.
Tim – Yes, the after party is something I wish we could have planned better.

What was the best part of your wedding day?
Kelli – Marring my best friend and sharing that special day with our friends and family.
Tim – Celebrating our love with all of our friends and family. Also, seeing Kelli walk down the isle with her big beautiful smile. Even though I had already seen her during the day, that moment was really special to me.

Is there anything you wish you had spent more time or money on?
Kelli – I wish I would have taken more time to reapplying make up and gloss so I wouldn’t of had a sweaty face in some of the photos, haha. Not really anything of value. I wish it would have lasted longer!!!
Tim – I can’t think of a thing!

Is there anything you wish you had spent less time or money on?
Kelli – Not really!!!
Tim – I’m sure you can always wish you spent less money on a wedding, but it turned out great so I can’t single out one thing.

Was there anything unexpected that you loved?
Kelli – I loved that Gabriel captured the butterfly on Tim’s boot. Such a special thing.
Tim – I already mentioned Kelli’s trip down the isle. Leaving the ceremony to Orange Blossom Special was so amazing and spontaneous.

What was your favorite moment of the day?
Kelli – Walking down the isle and leaving with my husband. We picked non-traditional wedding music, two of my late fathers favorites songs played on fiddle and guitar and when we left everyone clapped and cheered us out to the beat of Orange Blossom Special! I just wanted to skip but my dress wouldn’t allow my knee to go that high.

What was your favorite image from your wedding?
Kelli – Oh man, I have so many… The butterfly picture, the sunset picture, several of the tree with the band playing, and a lot of our friends and families.
Tim – I’m the same way, there are so many. I also love the butterfly picture, the sunset, and all of the nighttime pictures with the band and dancers. I love all the wedding party pictures too, they all were so natural and capture our family and friends perfectly. The rocking chair pictures stand out.

Describe some of your favorite wedding details and how you came up with them…
Kelli – I just wanted a country but chic wedding. I felt the place we got married had told a lot about us and it was a beautiful place that didn’t need a lot of added beauty. Beyond that, we just tried to keep things simple and pick things that we liked or that we had some connection to.
Tim – I agree with Kelli, we just tried to keep it simple and use things had a connection to us. Like our cake toppers! My college mascot was an owl and Kelli loves owls too. She found those little guys on etsy. They still sit out at our house.

What did you like the most about working with englexas photography?
Kelli – On your wedding day there is so much stuff going on and you both were such calming spirits that it really rubbed off. After talking a few times I knew I could trust you and your ideas. I’m glad I did because you two captured our wedding day beautifully.
Tim – I couldn’t agree more. So calming and natural. It was like you guys were part of the family and wedding party.

What’s your number #1 tip for future engaged couples?
Kelli – It is easy to get wrapped up in planning and all the stress that goes along with a wedding. A wedding is a celebration of your love, enjoy it and ignore the stress of the details. You have each other forever and this is your night to celebrate.
Tim – Don’t sweat the details. Just have fun and enjoy it!

the relaunch

In 2007 I received my first camera (Nikon D60) and I wasn’t really sure how to use it. A recent trip to the UK had ignited a passion inside of me. I had always been a natural creative but the exciting part about photography I fell in love with was that it combined my creativity with my love for technology. At that time photography wasn’t a ‘thing’ (like it is now)…I was simply following my passion and I started taking pictures for everyone I knew!

One of my first weddings was in 2009 for my husbands’ cousin. Right after the ceremony a huge storm rolled through which meant we weren’t able to take portraits outside…this was the first time I had been put in this kind of position. All of my pre-planned ideas were quickly falling to the wayside and because I worked well under pressure it resulted in one of my favorite shots I’ve taken of a bride and groom:

Shortly after that Ash Imagery chose me as his second shooter for an Indian wedding. It was an honor to be chosen and I learned so much working with someone who had so much experience. The exposure from working with Michael, being featured twice on Rock ‘n’ Roll bride; once as an Up and Coming photographer and again for a wedding brought me lots of work, quickly. In my second season as a wedding photographer I had 10 weddings booked. Meeting with couples and shooting their weddings was something that came naturally to me, something that gave me energy and didn’t feel like ‘work’ at all!

At that time my husband had his first start-up company and it required us to pack our bags and move to Little Rock, Arkansas. In the middle of that second season I also became pregnant with our second child. I spent the summer traveling back to Houston to shoot the weddings I had booked, it was exhausting but I was excited about how much I was learning and growing. My husband also joined me as my second shooter; it was so much fun to shoot weddings with him and englexas quickly became something that we enjoyed together!

Once wedding season was over in 2010 we had our little girl Darby and decided it would be best to put the camera down and take a break from weddings for a while to focus on our family. I mostly took pictures of friends and family in 2011 and developed my personal blog. I planned to start my business back up but it was slow going because when you move cities, you are basically starting over. I booked a few weddings but when Darby was 9 months old we found out we were pregnant again (surprise!) and we knew that juggling 3 kids (2 of them under 2) and a photography business would be very difficult, especially since Gabriel was working so hard on his company. So, we decided that I would just focus 100% of my attention on our family for a season with the intention of one day starting it back up.

In 2013 we moved to Crystal Lake, Illinois to plant a church with our best friends, Nick and Lyndie. We had our first Sunday service in September of that year and it’s doing awesome! For the past year we’ve dedicated all of our time to The Church, Gabriel has launched his 4th company as a State Farm agent and I’ve been taking every opportunity I can to get my camera out again shoot!

Now that we are finally settled in one place, our kids are all in school and we’re surrounded with an awesome group of supporters: we’re excited to announce that we are going to re-launch englexas photography!

There are lots of exciting (and free!) things ahead for this year. We have a passion for photography, a genuine love to make people smile and a deep desire to provide families with images that can be treasured for a lifetime. We are excited about this new adventure and what it means for our family… englexas photography is back in 2015!
