mason jar herb garden

One of the first things I noticed, and loved about this house was the amazing gardening window. I had been wanting to start a herb garden for a really long time and when I saw this window I knew it was meant to be!
When we had a bunch of Mason Jars given to us from a wedding I decided that they would be the perfect for the herb garden. I replanted a basil, rosemary and aloe plant but I also planted some basil, rosemary, parsley, cilantro and mexican sunflower seeds.

The only problem I have had is that there are no holes in the bottom of the jar for water to drain out. The gardening expert I talked to suggested putting packaging peanuts in the bottom of the jars to help soak up extra water. I think I’ve over-watered the parsley unfortunately but the rosemary and basil are doing well.

I made these plant markers from a tutorial I found on pinterest over at wit & whistle

If any of you have advice on keeping a window herb garden alive through the winter I would love to hear it, I’ve heard that this is possible and I would love to keep my herbs alive through winter! I have lots of recipe using my herbs coming up over the next few weeks :)

I feel like fall came so quickly upon us – one day I had the A/C blowing to heat the next day! I’m very unprepared…my summer clothes still fill my closet and I am pulling sweaters out of storage as I need them! So when I saw this video over at Creature Comforts I just had to share! I always find it so difficult to figure out the best way to wear my scarves!
