the johnson family

it’s no secret around here that my favorite thing to capture is true emotion. The images of my own family that I’m drawn to are the ones where we are enjoying one another, laughing and playing around…this captures the true essence of “us” rather than us all sitting still and smiling. So when I’m capturing families I usually work pretty hard to get everyone to feel comfortable enough in front of the camera to let out their emotions and be free to laugh and play, usually the parents are the ones who struggle with this the most!

It’s an absolute JOY for me when I meet a family who allows themselves to be free to be “them” in our photo session and that couldn’t describe the Johnson family more! From the moment the session started they played and laughed and it was even hard for me to take the pictures because I was laughing so hard along with them! Looking back on the photos is no different, a smile comes to my face the same way that it did the day that I was taking pictures and I hope that every family that I get the joy of photographing feels the same way.

family session recap // slaughter family

In the month of February we checked back in with some of our favorite weddings to get their advice for future brides and grooms, you can read that series here. This month we will be checking back in with some of our former family sessions to hear what advice they have from their family sessions.

You can see the other entries here: part 1 // part 2
Let’s see what the Slaughter family had to say about their family session…

What would you change about your session, if anything?

If I could change anything about our session, it would be the weather. Although it was a beautiful, sunny day, it was really cold!

What was your favorite image from your session?

I LOVE the family photo where Lucy is looking at the camera and we’re all looking at one another. Lily is laughing. LOVE LOVE LOVE it! :)

What’s your number #1 tip for future family sessions?
My tip would be to trust Debbie’s advice. She knows what she’s taking about. :)
